What is a “General Conference” and how often is it held?
General Conference is the supreme governing body of The Wesleyan Church of North America. It is held every four years (quadrennium) in a location recommended by the Church’s office of the General Secretary and approved by its General Board.
Where will General Conference 2012 be held?
The Lexington Convention Center in Lexington, Kentucky, will be the location of the June 2–6, 2012 General Conference of The Wesleyan Church. Learn more.
What is the theme of General Conference 2012?
“Loving Christ, Embracing our World” is the General Conference 2012 theme. It reflects the mission of The Wesleyan Church to fulfill the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment.
Who attends?
The Wesleyan Church has a modified-congregational form of government. Wesleyan districts (Wesleyan churches within a designated geographical region) hold yearly district conferences, where ministers and members from local churches are elected as delegates to the next General Conference.
Other members of the General Conference attend by virtue of their office (e.g., officials of The Wesleyan Church, directors of ancillary organizations, and Wesleyan higher education presidents).
Non-delegate constituents of The Wesleyan Church and representatives of sister denominations or organizations are invited to attend General Conference sessions as its guests.
Why should I attend?
General Conference offers constituents of The Wesleyan Church an opportunity to learn more about the mission and core beliefs of the Church, observe or participate in its election of officials, network with its lay and ministerial membership, and discover its resources to advance its districts and local churches.
What is the General Conference 2012 schedule?
Legislative sessions will be held Saturday, June 2 (7–9:30p); Monday-Tuesday, June 4–5 (8:30–11:30a, 1–4:30p, 7–9p); and Wednesday, June 6 (8:30–11:30a).
Sunday inspirational rallies will be held at 10a, 2:30p, and 7p.
Where can I stay?
Delegates and officials of The Wesleyan Church are pre-registered and assigned rooms in the General Conference 2012 hotel. On or after March 1, delegates will be asked to confirm their arrival and departure dates.
Non-delegates may make reservations on their own. Area hotels and motels may have a discounted rate for those who register as Wesleyans. Learn more.
Where can I eat?
The Lexington Convention Center has restaurants and food courts to fit every budget. In addition, there are restaurants within a short walking distance of the Center. Learn more.
Do I need to register?
Non-delegates of General Conference 2012 are encouraged to register for security reasons. Those registered will receive a name badge and will have the option of purchasing a delegate packet.
There is no cost to register as a non-delegate. Non-delegate lodging and food are not covered by the General Conference.
How can I rent exhibit space?
