WKFM

Before missionary George Clarke left Sierra Leone in Africa, he promised Chief Alamani that he would send someone to tell his village people the "God way," but there were no funds available. While traveling by train visiting churches throughout North America, he observed crying, hungry children who were quieted by small pieces of fruit and candy that cost only pennies. The idea came to him to use pennies to satisy the spiritually hungry people of the world. He developed the plan for Wesleyan children to give one penny per week—the plan is still the same today. In first year there were enough pennies collected to send two missionaries to Africa. WKFM was organized in 1902 (as the Young Missionary Workers Band) and is financially supported by Wesleyan Women.
