TASK FORCE TO STUDY FINANCIAL COST OF MINISTERIAL EDUCATION

Whereas, The desire of the Wesleyan denomination is that our ministers be educated, trained, and equipped at our colleges and universities;

Whereas, The increasing cost of higher education at our colleges and universities is causing many of our young people called to ministry to consider other affordable educational options outside of our colleges and universities;

Whereas, The cost of education at our colleges and universities is such that many of our students cannot attend without assuming significant debt from student loans; and

Whereas, The amount of student loans carried by most of our college graduates who are going into ministry is burdensome and adversely affects their ability to serve the church;

Resolved, That the General Board appoint a task force of two or more persons to thoroughly study creative ways to make ministerial education more affordable while ensuring quality and excellence in ministerial education through our Wesleyan higher educational institutions, and to report its recommendations to the General Board for recommendation to the 2020 General Conference.
