THE WESLEYAN CHURCH OF CANADA ESTABLISHED NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Whereas , The internationalization philosophy of The Wesleyan Church encourages the development of national/regional entities of the Church globally evidenced, in part, by the creation of the International Conference of The Wesleyan Church;

Whereas , The very positive and long term relationships within the North American General Conference are valued and integral to our shared history, it is frequently clear that two nations blended in this way creates a certain sense of awkwardness when referencing currency, culture, political systems, judicial realities and the use of terms such as "our nation";

Whereas, It is believed that the missional impact of The Wesleyan Church of Canada will be enhanced by a national strategy of church planting and the development of church health protocols that are indigenous to Canada and crafted by Canadians;

Whereas, The creation and present function of The Wesleyan Church of Canada mandated by the Government of Canada requires an ongoing entity by that name, it is believed that the maturity, vitality and size of the Canadian church has developed to the point that a more missional expression of the Church should come into existence that moves beyond the mere fulfillment of governmental regulations;

Whereas, The Atlantic and Central Canada Districts in their 2013 District Conferences voted in favour of this concept in principle by an affirming vote of circa 96%;

Whereas, All of the requirements for Established National Conference designation outlined in the Charter of the International Conference section 6515:2 have been met by The Wesleyan Church of Canada; and

Whereas, The International Conference meeting in January 2015 recommended without dissenting vote the approval of Established National Conference status for The Wesleyan Church of Canada;

Resolved, That the North American General Conference approve the recommendation of the International Conference and the Atlantic and Central Canada Districts that The Wesleyan Church of Canada be granted Established National Conference status;

Resolved, That the districts of The Wesleyan Church of Canada remain an integral part of and full participating districts in the North American General Conference until such time as a Canadian General Conference might emerge;

Resolved, That the initial National Conference of The Wesleyan Church of Canada will meet in 2018 and every four years thereafter;

Resolved, That a part-time National Superintendent will be appointed by the North American General Superintendent in 2016 for an initial term of two years;

Resolved, That the National Board of The Wesleyan Church of Canada will consist initially of seven persons: the National Superintendent, the two District Superintendents, and four other persons, two from each district. Of these, at least two must be laypersons. The National Superintendent and the two District Superintendents will appoint the initial National Board. Beginning in 2018, the four at-large members will be elected by the National Conference;

Resolved, That the Established National Conference of The Wesleyan Church of Canada will be governed initially by the North American Discipline of The Wesleyan Church, and;

Resolved, That the authority to complete any and all remaining details yet to be finalized be fully vested in the Executive Board of the North American General Board and the National Board of The Wesleyan Church of Canada.
