The Chesapeake District gathered at Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington, Delaware on Sunday, October 29, to celebrate the ordination of Curtis Cecil, Jennifer Legacy, and Chad Wiggins. The celebration included passionate worship and a powerful message from Dr. Wayne Schmidt, General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church. Speaking from Paul's prayer for the Ephesians in chapter three, Dr. Schmidt reminded the candidates along with those already ordained that longevity in ministry requires complete dependence upon God's power; a power that can do "immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine," (Ephesians 3:20 NIV). He went on to say that the limits to God's power is never on the giving end, but on the receiving end requiring ministers to daily reinforce the awareness that "We are God's kids and our Father is loaded."
The Chesapeake District also celebrated the years of service of six pastors and the licensing of six new ministers. Dr. Steve Dunmire from Houghton College presented a hand-made basin and towel to each ordinand to remind them of the model of servant-leadership established by Jesus when He washed His disciples' feet. Dr. Dunmire was also privileged to present Houghton's 49th annual Ries Pastor of the Year Award to Pastor Mike Hilson of New Life La Plata Church. Calvary Wesleyan followed the service with a wonderful time of food and fellowship to celebrate Chesapeake's pastoral accomplishments.
