Pastor Stan began his role as District Superintendent in 2000. In 2001, the Hoovers moved from Indiana to Annapolis where the district office was located at that time. The Hoovers felt accepted by the Chesapeake people, and God opened new doors of opportunity for connections and service. In 2001, Debbie joined the World Hope International (WHI) team. In 2013, after eleven years with WHI, Debbie began her district role.
When asking the Hoovers if they had any memorable, funny, or inspirational stories they would like to share, they both laughed and said they enjoyed the learning curve! Both were reared in rural areas of Indiana, so the eastern shore seemed very familiar but living in a densely populated area was new. They both have learned to love the city, and they are excited that The Wesleyan Church is pursuing both the rural and city zip codes for Jesus. Pastor Stan related that some of the most rewarding times were when pastors and church leaders took bold steps of faith to envision how their local congregation might reach more people for Jesus.
Future plans for the Hoovers include visits to family and friends and potentially relocation to another state. They laughed that they were tempted to wear shirts for the 2018 District Conference that read "We Don't Know," since they had rather indefinite plans after leaving the superintendent position. Pastor Stan has a list of fifteen or more areas he would like to pursue and learn. Debbie has interest in taking cooking classes and spending more time playing the piano. Both are looking forward to getting involved in local church ministries.
