Why Buffalo, New York?

Here are just a few reasons we are excited to gather in the Buffalo Niagara area for GC16.

  • Buffalo has been identified as one of the top-ten "post-Christian" cities in America, yet there are strong Wesleyan churches there, including two mega-churches.
  • Abundant support from Western New York District.
  • Beautiful Houghton College, serving the church since 1883, is only a 75-minute scenic drive away.
  • The Wesleyan churches and Houghton College conduct several ministries among Buffalo residents below the poverty line, including international refugees. GC16 attendees will be able to hear from people whose lives have been made new in Christ through a variety of kingdom ministries. View GC16 map.
  • Our Canadian churches (Central Canada and Atlantic districts) can enjoy greater proximity to the conference.
  • It's the 50th anniversary of the last General Conference in New York (Syracuse, 1966).
  • Western New York has historic interest for Wesleyans, especially the abolition movement, the "underground railroad," the 2nd Great Awakening Charles Finney revivals, and the National Historical Park celebrating the first women's rights convention (Seneca Falls Wesleyan Chapel).
  • VIDEO: Buffalo. For Real. Discover gorgeous landscapes, a world-class art museum and some of America's greatest architecture. Visit Niagara Falls only thirty minutes away.
  • VIDEO: Downtown Buffalo is experiencing an inner-city renewal, including a rapidly growing medical research corridor and professional sports facilities.
