About Spooner Wesleyan Church

The Church: Spooner Wesleyan Church (SWC) is a growing church of over 300 located in the town of Spooner, Wisconsin. We exist "to reach the entire family with the hope of Jesus, as we serve, worship, and grow in Christlikeness together." We have a multi-generational congregation, with many young families, contemporary worship, and a zest for doing life together. The Area: If you love the outdoors, then the northwoods of Wisconsin is a place you'll love to be! Whether it be hiking, fishing (summer or ice), swimming, hunting, snowmobiling, or skiing, there is always something to do in the northwoods no matter what season it is! While you can get everything you need in Spooner, Rice Lake (30 min away) has a Wal-Mart and many other chain stores and restaurants. The larger towns of Duluth, Minnesota, and Eau Claire, Wisconsin are about an hour away and provide all the shopping opportunities you could want. And the Twin Cities of Minnesota, with all their attractions, are only two hours down the road!

Job Description

The Assistant Pastor of Connections and Church Life helps people move from attending Spooner Wesleyan Church to becoming connected, cared for, and involved in the life and mission of the church.

This pastor will provide regular preaching support, lead newcomer connections, coordinate church-wide events, and develop volunteer teams.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Preaching and Teaching

• Preach approximately once per month.
• Work with the Senior Pastor on sermon planning and special services.
• Teach in other settings as needed.
• Help create greater margin for the Senior Pastor to invest in staff, leadership, vision, and long-term planning.

Connections and Newcomers

• Develop and oversee a clear pathway for guests and regular attenders to become connected at SWC.
• Oversee guest follow-up, connection cards, welcome processes, and next-step communication.
• Recruit, train, and support welcome and hospitality volunteers.
• Coordinate Welcome Brunches, next-step opportunities, and membership pathways.
• Work with Discipleship Pastor to help people connect to life groups and adult discipleship.
• Identify people who may be falling through the cracks and help them take a next step.

Church Life and Events

• Help plan and coordinate church-wide outreach, fellowship, family, and ministry events.
• Create clear event timelines, volunteer teams, communication plans, and follow-up.
• Work with staff and ministry leaders to make sure events are organized, purposeful, and connected to SWC's mission.
• Help coordinate the church calendar with the Senior Pastor and other team leaders.

Volunteer Engagement

• Help attenders find meaningful places to serve.
• Work with ministry leaders to identify volunteer needs and recruit, train, and support volunteers.
• Develop volunteer leaders for hospitality, events, care, and other church-life ministries.
• Strengthen communication and coordination between staff and volunteer teams.

Staff Collaboration

• Work closely with the Senior Pastor to support the mission and direction of SWC.
• Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning, and evaluation.
• Any other duties assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Qualifications

• A healthy personal relationship with Jesus Christ that includes consistent practice of the spiritual disciplines (immersion in God's Word, praying, fasting,tithing, etc.)
• Being teachable, humble, accountable, and willing to be challenged to grow beyond your comfort zone.
• A team player who works well with others.
• Someone who likes to have fun.
• A self-starter who has a desire for ministry that doesn't let them settle for good enough.
• Gifted in preaching, teaching, shepherding, and relational ministry.
• Able to organize ministry, build systems, and develop volunteer leaders.
• Comfortable working with both people and details.
• Alignment with Wesleyan Armenian theology.
• This is a pastoral position, and as such, any candidate must be licensed or ordained in The Wesleyan Church, or actively pursuing ordination.

Compensation

This is a full-time position. Pay is dependent upon education and experience. Health insurance, vacation, and pension are included.
